Nagumo had Kei Uzuki dead to rights in Sakamoto Days chapter 269, and he still didn’t finish the job. Fans watching the fallout are now realizing that hesitation might be the biggest mistake of the entire final arc.
The chapter opens with what looks like a clean kill. Nagumo tricks Gaku into a mirror match, slips past Uzuki’s guard, and drives his blade into the back of Uzuki’s neck. Boiled sees it happen. The crowds outside start celebrating.
Even the narrative treats it as if the fight is over, right down to Uzuki collapsing on a first-person color page as everyone assumes the JAA’s war with Slur has ended.
The Wound That Gave Everything Away
That celebration does not last. Shishiba and Osaragi, both still processing the carnage, are the first to say out loud what the rest of the cast is too relieved to notice. Osaragi points out that the amount of blood makes it clear Uzuki’s carotid artery was cut, which should have been fatal on its own.
But she also delivers the line that reframes the entire scene. Even in the middle of a war he swore to win, Nagumo could not bring himself to kill an old friend in a cruel or prolonged way. He went for a fast, clean strike instead of making sure the job was actually finished.
That single choice becomes the hinge that the rest of the chapter turns on. While Shin tries to get Nagumo to save a dying Sakamoto, and Nagumo delivers the grim medical verdict that the injuries are already fatal, Kindaka is the one who senses the real problem.
He calls it out directly: a fight this difficult should not end this easily. Kanaguri backs him up with the blunt reminder that the story is not over yet.
Uzuki Rises, and Sakamoto’s Skill Comes Back to Bite Everyone
Kindaka is proven right almost immediately. Uzuki stands back up, ties his hair back, and Nagumo realizes what is coming just in time to shove Shin out of danger, taking Uzuki’s blade himself instead. Uzuki follows it with a kick that sends a magazine shelf crashing down, and in the chaos, he grabs a stray pen off the ground.
That detail matters more than it looks. Uzuki uses the pen to stab Nagumo in the neck and chest, turning an ordinary object into a weapon, the exact same way Sakamoto has done throughout the series. Nagumo even says out loud that Uzuki looks like Sakamoto at his best.
The chapter closes with Uzuki’s appearance shifting entirely, taking on the look of a younger, thinner Sakamoto, confirming that whatever survived that fatal wound is no longer fully Uzuki.
Nagumo sparing Uzuki was never framed as a tactical error in the moment. It reads as the last piece of humanity he had left for someone he used to fight alongside, and the story is already punishing him for it. With Sakamoto’s own abilities apparently bleeding into Uzuki’s body, the JAA’s climax just gained a second Sakamoto-shaped problem.
