is diving back into the true-crime depths of Ryan Murphy’s Monster anthology, taking on one of the most infamous figures in criminal history for the franchise’s next installment.

Sarah Paulson’s Role in Monster Season 3

Appearing on The Tonight Show, Paulson discussed her expanding television slate, confirming she stars in . While newcomer Ella Beatty takes on the central role of Lizzie Borden, the 1892 accused axe-murderer who was ultimately acquitted, Paulson plays notorious 20th-century serial killer Aileen Wuornos, who was executed in 2002.

Rather than telling a straightforward biographical account, Paulson explained that the series intertwines the two historical figures across different timelines to examine a shared thematic core.

“There is an element that is sort of part of the whole piece about female rage,” Paulson explained, noting that Wuornos’s story involves narrative flashbacks and flash-forwards where her character admires Borden. “We’ve got a modern-day… or well, it’s not totally present day, but Eileen’s story as she maybe admires Lizzie. They’re part of the female rage club.”

The casting also reunites Paulson with Beatty, whom the Emmy winner affectionately dubbed her “number one with a bullet” friend and co-star following their time together on Broadway in Appropriate.

Now trading the stage for a dark true-crime dynamic, Paulson and Beatty anchor a narrative exploring how historical and modern threads of female defiance intersect on screen.
