Five years ago, the prospect of a collaboration between Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter seemed highly unlikely. Now, Rodrigo has given fans their strongest indication yet that she would be willing to work with the pop star, sparking fresh speculation about a potential future project between two of music’s biggest names.

In a cover story for the Summer 2026 issue of Dazed magazine, Rodrigo discussed her creative influences, upcoming music, and artists she admires. When asked directly whether she would consider collaborating with Carpenter, the singer offered an answer that immediately caught fans’ attention and fueled excitement across social media.

Olivia Rodrigo Leaves The Door Open

During the interview, Rodrigo spoke about artists such as PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, and Lorde as musicians she would love to work with in the future.

The conversation then shifted to Carpenter, prompting a response that many fans interpreted as a major step forward.

“Oh, gosh,” Rodrigo said. “I mean, I’m open. I’m open to all types of collaboration.”

While Rodrigo stopped short of confirming any plans, the comment marked a notable change from a situation that once dominated pop culture headlines. Rather than avoiding the topic, she openly acknowledged the possibility of working together, leaving fans eager to see whether the idea eventually becomes reality.

Moving Beyond The ‘Drivers License’ Era

The significance of Rodrigo’s remarks stems from the public narrative that emerged following the release of her breakthrough 2021 single ‘Drivers License’. Fans widely speculated that the song referenced her ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ co-star Joshua Bassett and his rumored relationship with Carpenter.

As attention intensified, Carpenter released songs including ‘Skin’ and later ‘because i liked a boy’, both of which addressed the scrutiny she faced during the controversy. The situation generated years of speculation, even as both artists continued building successful careers independently.

Signs that the tension had eased became more visible earlier this year. In a March 2026 interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo addressed Carpenter directly and dismissed the idea of an ongoing feud.

“I think she’s great,” Rodrigo said. “I’m so happy for all of her success too. I love the album she’s put out.” She added, “It’s all love, though. I’ve talked to her many times.”

Those comments, combined with her latest openness toward collaboration, suggest that any lingering drama has long since been left behind.

As of now, a collaboration remains purely hypothetical. Rodrigo’s immediate focus is her upcoming third studio album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’, which arrives on June 12, 2026. Early reports suggest the project will not include any guest features.

Even so, Rodrigo’s latest remarks have already reignited discussion about what could become one of pop music’s most anticipated collaborations. If the two chart-topping artists ever decide to share a song, it would likely be one of the most talked-about releases in recent memory.
