Hunter x Hunter is heading back into its familiar holding pattern. Weekly Shonen Jump confirmed the manga will pause again once Chapter 420 runs in Issue #41, closing out the run that brought Yoshihiro Togashi’s series back after a two-year gap.
The silver lining is that this break comes with more clarity than most. Chapters 428 through 430 are already in their latest stages of production, even though no return date has been set.
Togashi’s Back Condition Keeps Shaping the Schedule
This pattern is not new for Hunter x Hunter. Togashi has battled chronic back pain that has made it difficult for him to work at a consistent pace, which has driven the series’ repeated hiatuses over the years.
What is different this time is the size of the stockpile. Togashi has been posting steady progress updates on X since resuming work, and by mid-2026, he had confirmed inking completed well past Chapter 430, putting him roughly two batches ahead of what Weekly Shonen Jump was actually publishing.
That gap is likely why this hiatus feels less alarming than the ones that stretched for years, including the four-year break between 2018 and 2022. Chapters 411 through 420 arrived on a mostly weekly cadence over the summer, giving longtime readers their most stable run of Hunter x Hunter in nearly two decades.
Shueisha has not signaled a permanent return to weekly serialization. The publisher has instead leaned into releasing chapters in batches whenever Togashi’s health allows, and this pause fits that same rhythm rather than breaking from it.
For now, the Succession Contest arc stays frozen exactly where Chapter 420 leaves it. Readers will need to watch for Shonen Jump’s next editorial announcement before Chapters 421 through 430 get an actual release window.
