Domhnall Gleeson has spent years barking orders at theme park visitors as General Hux, but he only recently went to see the spectacle for himself. What was supposed to be a low-key visit to Disney’s flagship Star Wars ride quickly went off script the second park staff realized the First Order commander was standing right in front of them.

Sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Gleeson admitted he had never actually experienced the Star Wars attraction his character anchors despite showing up for ride premieres tied to his other massive franchises.
“I went to the opening of the Harry Potter one, and that was amazing, but you’re supposed to be there, because it’s the opening,” he said. “And I did not go to the opening of the Star Wars one, but, like, I have quite a big part in the Star Wars one.”
That role, of course, is General Hux, the ruthless First Order commander Gleeson portrayed across the sequel trilogy. Hux’s voice is woven directly into Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, barking orders in the same clipped, icy cadence that defined his on-screen performance.
Rather than arranging a VIP escort, Gleeson decided to slip into the park unannounced and line up just like any other guest. That undercover plan worked right up until a performer in full First Order gear locked eyes with him and delivered the ultimate in-character greeting:
“It’s good to see you, undercover general.”
Gleeson said the cast member delivered the line without breaking form, and the moment only escalated from there once the ride ended.
“And when I was leaving, they all saluted me. It was amazing.”
For an actor who spent three films commanding legions of troops across a galaxy far, far away, it turns out his authority never actually expired. Even out of costume and standing among everyday park visitors, Gleeson discovered that in the eyes of the First Order, once you’re General Hux, you never truly get to go off-duty.
