Fans have been hoping to see Matt Murdock finally suit up alongside the Avengers for years. Charlie Cox just put a pin in that dream, at least for now.

Cox’s only big-screen appearance as Daredevil in the MCU came in : No Way Home, marking his official entry into the universe after his acclaimed Netflix run. Since then, he has been largely TV-bound, starring in She-Hulk and two seasons of on Disney+. With and Secret Wars looming as the two biggest events in years, fans had every reason to hope the Man Without Fear would finally make the leap to the big screen.

Charlie Cox Confirms Daredevil Is Staying on the Small Screen for Now

Speaking to Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cox made his situation pretty clear.

It’s a straightforward answer, but with Cox, fans know not to take denials at face value. Some are already drawing comparisons to ‘s repeated denials before No Way Home. Cox has form here too, having once denied any involvement in that same film before appearing in it.

Still, the current landscape does make his absence feel more plausible than not. Cox was notably absent from Marvel’s big Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, and when asked about it, he acknowledged the chair simply wasn’t there for him. His ongoing filming commitments to Born Again could realistically push any Avengers crossover further down the line.

Avengers: Doomsday boasts a massive confirmed roster, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside returning heroes like Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, , and the Fantastic Four cast. Whether there’s room or a reason to squeeze Daredevil in remains to be seen.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026.
