Kodansha Manga has officially unveiled the cover for Black Jack Deluxe Edition Vol. 1, giving fans their first real look at what’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated manga releases of the year. The volume is set to drop on November 3, 2026.
Black Jack is recognized as Osamu Tezuka’s third most famous series, after Astro Boy and Kimba, the White Lion. For a creator of Tezuka’s stature, that’s no small thing, and this new edition is clearly designed to match that legacy.

The cover art, shared by Kodansha’s official account on X, is bold and striking: a black-and-white portrait of Black Jack himself set against a vivid red background. It’s the kind of first impression that sets expectations high for the physical quality of the finished book.
The Deluxe Edition is a 3-in-1 omnibus format. That means Vol. 1 packs a significant chunk of the series into a single hardcover release. Vol. 1 focuses specifically on the chapters Tezuka himself colored, making it a genuinely special artifact for longtime fans and new readers alike.
Tezuka’s original Black Jack manga centers on a brilliant maverick doctor who practices without a license. Tezuka published the manga in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1973 to 1984. The series is a rich medical drama that mixes mystery, intrigue, suspense, and a dash of humor, with a main character who keeps his caring nature hidden behind a cold exterior.
Tezuka earned his medical degree before turning to manga, which gives Black Jack a layer of authenticity that few medical dramas in any medium can match.
