While ’97 delivered massive cosmic stakes and world-ending threats throughout its climactic runs, the animated series has quietly positioned a purely human antagonist as its most terrifying force yet.

“Equally as Threatening as Apocalypse”: Ben Pronsky on Creed’s White House Authority

Speaking about Graydon Creed’s political ascent and the teaser setting up Season 3, voice actor opened up about bringing the notorious anti-mutant extremist into the highest office in the country. Following Creed’s shocking election to the presidency and the lingering, complicated shadows of his biological parents, Sabretooth and Mystique, the battlefield is shifting from superhuman brawls to state-sanctioned persecution.

For Pronsky, Creed’s danger isn’t measured in energy blasts or telekinesis, but in systemic authority.

“You look at somebody like Apocalypse and some of these other major villains who have these incredible powers, but for Graydon, it’s a different kind of power,” Pronsky explained. “He’s sort of like pulling these political levers that are ushering him into a position of power that could be equally as threatening as somebody like an Apocalypse.”

That institutional danger allows Creed to execute sweeping agendas on an international scale without ever needing mutant abilities of his own.

“It’s a lot of responsibility in that regard,” Pronsky admitted. “I don’t take it lightly for a moment because I realize the implications of what somebody like that could actually do on a national and international stage… It’s such a dangerous prospect. So I’m interested to see how it plays out.”

By anchoring Creed’s fanaticism in realistic political mechanisms and unhealed domestic trauma, sets the stage for a Season 3 where the mutant race faces an enemy that fists and optic blasts cannot simply defeat.
