Angel Studios has officially unveiled the first trailer for The Brink of War at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 13, 2026, offering a tense first look at the high-stakes political drama centered on one of the Cold War’s most critical turning points.
Jeff Daniels stars as Ronald Reagan in Cold War thriller set during the 1986 Reykjavík Summit
The Brink of War, which premiered as Reykjavík, tells the dramatic story about one of the most important events in the entire history of the Cold War – the 1986 Reykjavík Summit. At the peak of hostilities between the Soviet Union and the USA, both nations’ presidents met in Iceland to talk about reducing their countries’ stockpiles of nuclear weapons.
This exciting Cold War drama was directed by Michael Russell Gunn, who made his feature debut in the film. As for the shooting, it took place right in Reykjavík, with the use of the Höfði residence, which used to be the location of the real summit.
The Brink of War features intense negotiations, which illustrate the enormous political tension experienced by the main characters as they are on the verge of agreement concerning the complete abolition of nuclear weapons.
Moreover, Jeff Daniels plays Ronald Reagan in the movie, while his opponent Mikhail Gorbachev is portrayed by Jared Harris. J.K. Simmons serves as Secretary of State George Shultz and Hope Davis plays Nancy Reagan, while Aya Cash and Branka Katić appear in secondary roles.
However, the negotiations do not end successfully because the disagreement between Reagan and Gorbachev over the Strategic Defense Initiative – also known as “Star Wars” – ruins everything after the initial success.
The release date of The Brink of War has been announced as August 14, 2026. It will premiere with the support of such partners as SK Global and 2521 Entertainment.
In addition to releasing the teaser, Angel Studios showed off its plans for 2026, which include Animal Farm, Young Washington, Runner, and Zero A.D.
