The Contract Is a Trap and Nobody in Haldoria Has Read It Properly
Point 37.6 states that if the Crown Prince is discovered running a forgery operation intended to destroy the Empire, the Empire reserves the right to subject him to scaphism. Point 942.3 states that the Empire will pay all dues under the contract using coins made entirely from the innermost substance contained within the imperial gold coins currently being supplied by Funnel Trading Co.
The ten-year duration locks both parties in long enough for every one of these clauses to detonate at the exact moment Elisabeth chooses.
The king and his advisors are working with incomplete information and Elisabeth knows exactly what they do not know. The fake gold scheme is a bomb sitting underneath the entire agreement and Tida being handed counterfeit gold and left to deal with the consequences herself is the episode’s darkest joke. Elisabeth armed it and threw it back into the street.
Colt and his father, the Minister of Finance, are the next obvious targets and the financial infrastructure angle is the most interesting direction the show could go with the season finale approaching. Friede’s plan to usurp the throne makes him simultaneously more dangerous and more vulnerable because arrogance at that scale is exactly the kind of weakness Elisabeth builds entire schemes around.
The pacing frustration is real and worth acknowledging. The last few episodes have been deliberately tame after the brutality of the Arty arc and with only one episode left a cliffhanger feels almost inevitable. If Season 2 is not confirmed the amount of setup being laid right now is going to sting considerably.
But that is the point the show is making. Elisabeth is not trying to massacre anyone. She is building something large enough that her enemies destroy themselves through their own corruption and greed. The contracts, the currency, the political maneuvering, none of it is filler. It is the machinery through which the revenge is being constructed and the payoff when it finally arrives is going to be enormous.
Tida deserves her own spinoff. That is a separate conversation but it needed to be said.
