Ichika Abarai walked into the Bleach finale as the face of the next generation, and viewers immediately want to know who she is and why her name sounds so familiar. Rukia and Renji’s daughter debuts in the ten-year time skip of Episode 10 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity, alongside Ichigo’s son, Kazui Kurosaki.
Ichika is the daughter of Rukia Kuchiki and Renji Abarai, and she arrives as an apprentice Soul Reaper in Squad 13, the squad her mother now captains. Ayaka Ohashi voices her, and her first scene mirrors the moment Ichigo and Rukia met.
Tite Kubo introduced her in the final manga chapter, where she has her father’s bright red hair tied in a spiky ponytail with a white ribbon and her mother’s big, confident eyes. She wanders off without telling her parents, and Rukia says she is prone to getting into fights.
Her design echoes Senna from Bleach: Memories of Nobody, a character Kubo designed as something like Rukia and Renji’s daughter from an alternate universe. And personally to me, she looks like a mix of her mother’s determination and her father’s fiery spirit.
Ichika trains under Ikkaku Madarame, the Squad 11 third seat, which links her to Renji’s own days in that squad before he became Byakuya’s lieutenant. She dislikes monsters, and her confidence cracks in the Hell Arc one-shot when Szayel Apporro Grantz targets her.
Is Ichika Abarai Named After Ichigo?

Most likely, though Kubo has not confirmed it in anything we found. VIZ’s Nihongo Lesson noted that her name seems inspired by Ichigo’s, since the ichi in Ichika uses the kanji for strawberry and ka means flower. GameRant likewise describes the name as supposedly a homage to him.
Ichigo’s own name also reads as strawberry when written with a different kanji, and Chapter 1 carries the title Death & Strawberry. The anime finale shares that title as Death and Strawberry. We read her name as a nod to the person who changed Rukia’s life.
Does Ichika Like Kazui Kurosaki?

Canon has not shown any romantic interest. In Chapter 686, Ichika introduces herself and asks who the boy is, he says he is Kazui Kurosaki, a shinigami cloak appears on him, and she looks on surprised. GameRant points out that the roles are reversed from Ichigo and Rukia’s meeting, with Ichika as the shocked Strawberry and Kazui as the Death.
Kazui is the son of Ichigo and Orihime, voiced by Azusa Tachibana. In the finale he erases the last remnant of Yhwach’s spiritual pressure with his bare hand. His aunts are Karin and Yuzu, and to answer another question people keep searching, yes, Karin Kurosaki is Ichigo’s younger sister and the twin of Yuzu.
Together, Kazui and Ichika carry the story past Ichigo. The manga ended with both children training to become Soul Reapers like their parents, which leaves the door open for a continuation. The anime closes on Ichigo and Rukia’s poem and the words The Stories of Brave, so the next generation is where any new chapter would start.
A special Bleach event with cast members is planned in Japan next year.
