What Happened in One Piece Chapter 1196?
Chapter 1196, titled “The Love of the Suicidal is Worthless”, stayed on Sanji and Killingham from start to finish. Killingham used Dream Output to drag Sanji’s worst nightmare into the fight, and the nightmare turned out to be Ivankov. He then merged with it, ending up with Kirin’s body and Ivankov’s head.
A flashback went back to Kamabakka Kingdom, where Sanji spent the two years of the timeskip. Ivankov told him what he had always lacked, and the line carried the chapter:

Sanji realized something, the nightmare vanished, and he lit a cigarette on a giant’s rooftop while looking down at Killingham. The chapter did not show Sanji awakening Conqueror’s Haki, and it did not show Killingham going down.

No verified spoilers for Chapter 1197 exist as of this writing, with early summaries and pages usually surfacing a few days before release.
The one official piece of information is the preview line for the chapter, which OtakuKart lists as saying, “A crisis approaches Elbaf!! What is the fate of the Straw Hat crew!?”
Sanji’s fight carries weight beyond his own arc. Killingham is the one keeping the false rain goddess Zaza active, which means beating him would end the monster that takes giant children and free the giant warriors to turn their forces on targets like Imu. I expect Oda to stay on Sanji for most of the chapter, since 1196 ended with the fight unresolved.
Other threads are waiting too. Zoro sent Saint Shepherd Sommers running in Chapter 1195 and is chasing him. Luffy and Loki were still holding Imu off when the manga cut away from the battlefield, with Loki midway through a transformation.
Brook’s group also has to decide what to do about Gunko, who woke up and insists she is Gunko of the Manmayer family.
