Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 38, titled “Follow Your Heart”, runs 41 pages and splits its time across four storylines. Kawaki walks back into the dimension holding Naruto and Hinata, Sarada gets pinned down in the Shinju hideout, and Kobu closes in on Shikamaru. Boruto only appears on the last page, and he arrives swinging.
Kawaki Finally Returns to Naruto and Hinata

The chapter opens in the timeless dimension Kawaki created with Daikokuten, where Naruto and Hinata have been sealed since the end of the original series. Kawaki sits on one of the floating cubes and talks to an unconscious Naruto, beginning with the apology the official preview already revealed.
“Sorry… for keeping you locked up for so long,” Kawaki in Chapter 38 preview.
The apology never turns into a bonding moment. Kawaki tells Naruto that both he and Boruto have become full Otsutsuki, and that the Otsutsuki and the Shinju must be wiped out for peace to last. Boruto sits at the top of that list, and Kawaki very likely counts himself on it too.
The real confession comes next. Kawaki recalls killing Boruto three years ago while Momoshiki had control of him, right in front of Naruto. He sealed Naruto and Hinata so Naruto would never have to watch him do it a second time, and he admits the reasoning is cruel before saying he will kill Boruto permanently.
The most telling part of the scene is how the logic eats itself. Kawaki says he is sparing Naruto from watching his son die, yet his plan is to kill that son anyway, just out of Naruto’s sight. Since Boruto: Two Blue Vortex began, the seal has looked like a tactical move to take the Seventh Hokage off the board, and this chapter adds a second motive in mercy, at least in Kawaki’s mind.
Kawaki leaves through a portal under the cube and appears outside Himawari’s house, where he swears to protect her at all costs. According to illustrator Mikio Ikemoto, she lives in the old Uzumaki home, separate from Kawaki. That gap says plenty about how far the two have drifted since the original series.
Sarada Fights Code and Hidari Alone

The fight picks up where Chapter 37 stopped. Code delivered Sarada to the Shinju, and Hidari, the clone built from Sasuke’s chakra, went straight for her instead of following Code’s plan to use her as bait for Boruto. Chapter 38 opens with Hidari bursting out of a Claw Mark behind Sarada and Code blocking him with his prosthetic right hand, warning him he will regret disobeying.
Then Code swings his real left hand at Hidari, and it passes straight through him. Hidari’s body is covered in Code’s own Claw Marks, which gives him a limited version of Kamui-style intangibility, and Code, who mostly fights with taijutsu, points out how bad that matchup is for him. He also notes that Hidari’s torso and head are still exposed.
Sarada does not wait for Code to solve it. She tells him he was wide open and hits him with a fireball, and Code retreats through the Claw Marks to a cube in the cave, admitting he should have disabled her arms and legs from the start. Later she lands on the upper wall of the cave as Hidari comes out of a Claw Mark behind her and Code emerges out of Hidari’s body, and she singes them both with another fireball.
Code’s patience runs out after that. When Sarada lands beside the cube, he grabs her right arm with his left hand and her left leg with his right stump while Hidari drops onto the cube above them.
Code taunts her and prepares to gouge out her eyes, and Hidari stops him. That is the detail to watch.
Hidari has wanted to devour Sarada since Chapter 37, so he may just be protecting his meal. He was also made from Sasuke’s chakra and Sarada is Sasuke’s daughter, which raises the question of whether some part of Sasuke is still in there.

Kobu Moves Against Shikamaru

Away from the hideout, Shikamaru tells Koji that Furuta, the owner of the used bookstore, has agreed to help stall Jura and keep him from returning to the Shinju base. That buys time, but Kobu is already onto Shikamaru and asks to meet him immediately.
In the interrogation room, Kobu proposes replacing the temporary Eighth Hokage with Konohamaru Sarutobi. He then lays out physical evidence, a notebook belonging to Nishi that Shikamaru had borrowed. Torn pages near the back carry traces of writing that match the passcode for Boruto’s handcuffs, the same ones Mitsuki used to free him in Chapter 14.
On paper, Kobu’s choice is smart. Konohamaru is the grandson of the Third Hokage and a student of Naruto, which makes him a candidate almost nobody in Konoha could object to. Koji tells Shikamaru that Kobu is not trying to honor the Will of Fire at all.
Kobu and the other Five Nations leaders want to dismantle the shinobi villages, and putting a puppet in the Hokage seat while using Shikamaru’s case to show how untrustworthy shinobi are is how they plan to start. Konohamaru would hold the title while Kobu holds the actual control.
Koji’s Warning Before Boruto Steps In

Meanwhile Boruto is searching for Sarada, and tracking her chakra takes time. Once he locks onto it, Koji gives him a warning before he leaves: Momoshiki will manifest again if Boruto loses his cool. Momoshiki is thrilled to hear it, and Koji offers nothing more specific than telling Boruto to follow his heart.
Koji also tells Boruto he will not blame him for whatever happens next, and that nobody else should have the right to either. That is not a man describing a risk he can avoid.
Here is what I the chapter sets up. In Chapter 37, Koji had Boruto cut off from the team’s channel because Momoshiki hears what Boruto hears, and in Chapter 38 he says it to Boruto’s face with Momoshiki listening. Chapter 37 also established that rescuing Sarada is one of the triggers, so Boruto has no route to saving her that does not run through the feeling Koji warned him about.
The final page lands on Code’s mouth. Boruto teleports in, puts his sword to it, and slashes through the left side, leaving a massive gash. He and Sarada now face Code and Hidari together, with Hidari’s loyalties unclear.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 39 arrives on November 20, 2026.
