Hunter x Hunter Chapter 420 opens with the Black Whale under special martial law. An announcement over the ship’s speakers orders everyone to stand by for the Royal Army and warns that Tier 1 has been sealed off due to an emergency, with no explanation of what that emergency actually is.
What follows is a series of interlocking scenes tracking a masked, hooded operative moving through the casino floors in Zetsu, uncovering a trail of bodies that nobody can explain.
A Hooded Operative Finds a Trail of Bodies

The hooded figure works through the abandoned casino level, initially hoping to find the area empty enough to move freely. Instead, the bodies pile up.
The dead were killed before they could fire a shot, with no shell casings found anywhere and throats cut despite the victims carrying firearms of their own, which points to a single highly skilled assassin working alone.
The operative pieces together that these are Royal Army soldiers and guards, killed after they got caught trying to escort Zhang Lei’s or Luzurius’s people out of danger during the lockdown. The pattern is too clean and too fast for a mob hit, and the operative rules that theory out almost immediately.
Zhang Lei and Tserriednich Play a Dangerous Waiting Game

Zhang Lei, watching the casino floor from above, sets up a test of his own. He lines up a shot from roughly 36 meters, planning to fire a warning round and trigger an ability he calls Laplace’s Demon while staying concealed in Zetsu. Moments later he panics, realizing someone below may have already sensed his invisible Nen Beast, an ability that only works if nobody can detect it.
Elsewhere in the ship, the masked operative crosses paths with more men, cutting one down after mistaking him for a rival user of Zetsu and expressing open disappointment that he wasn’t. Guards scramble to identify the intruder over radio before getting cut off mid-sentence, and one witness is left shaken enough to admit the display of Nen ability terrified him.
The chapter closes on Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou, weighing his options as his own Nen Beast’s reserves run low. He debates retreating to the penthouse or holding position, only to realize the ship is now under total siege with no way in or out. He gets the last word before the chapter ends, refusing to back down.
