It feels great to finally see the Reacher we know starting to show up again. I know we are already six episodes into Season 4, but “Plum Out of Luck” finally brings back that feeling of Reacher being Reacher, refusing to back down even when everything around him is falling apart.
The fact that he does not simply throw the drive to Lila had me thinking, “Yep, there he is.” After spending so much of this season getting outsmarted, it was good to see him back in his element, and the episode is arguably the most relentless and dangerous one yet. True to its title, Russell Plum takes a bullet while Reacher’s usual luck seems to run out, leaving him on the back foot for most of the hour.

Reacher Is Finally Back In The Fight, But He’s Losing Control
The action finally feels like the Reacher we have been waiting for, especially when he refuses to give Lila exactly what she wants. Even with everything going wrong, he is still trying to stay one step ahead, and that was probably my favorite part of the episode.
The legal team working with Reacher is also finally starting to show some potential. Jacob has been brave so far, although I still think he is being a little dumb at times and putting himself into situations he really should think through first.
Then there is Uncle Monty, and I actually think his situation is more interesting than it first appeared. He is not exactly betraying Jacob. He just does not seem to understand how big of a mess everyone is actually dealing with, which could become a problem very soon.
The bus sequence, though, felt a little overdone to me. Tamara still gets some good moments, and learning more about her backstory gives the character more weight, especially when she shows what she is capable of during the chaos.
Reacher usually plans every possible outcome before anyone else even knows what is happening. This time, though, everyone seems to be doing a pretty good job of outsmarting him, and that is what makes the final two episodes interesting for me. Maybe Reacher has been holding something back, or maybe he really is running out of options.
After Russell identifies Leo Ahlquist, Reacher and Tamara make their way to Plutus Chemical, but the situation quickly turns into another fight when heavily armed mercenaries attack them. They are eventually taken down with stun guns and wake up handcuffed inside a van, apparently being taken somewhere to be executed.

And here is where I have my prediction: I think Sampson’s men could end up rescuing them. It feels like the best possibility right now, but I do not want to ruin the anticipation by trying to figure out every single possibility.
I am also still thinking about that photo. Reacher, Russell and the others only see General Putra, Sampson and Chief of Staff Cahill in the image, with Leo Ahlquist visible in the background. But the tech guy working with Lila and Amisha manages to decode or unblur another part of the photograph, and I have a feeling that reveal could make almost everything clear, including what exactly is going on and what we are really looking at.
That becomes even more interesting when Amisha and Lila meet a mysterious man, Talijah Levene, at a warehouse and thank him for his help. They tell him they will be in his debt and that they are there to serve him, while the episode makes it clear that he is preparing to carry out some major task on their behalf. We still do not know exactly who he is or what he wants, but his connection to Lila and Amisha’s plan could be one of the biggest reveals still waiting for us.
We also get to learn a little more about Lila and how she ended up with Amisha, who is directly connected to General Putra. At first, I honestly thought Lila might be Putra’s daughter or have some other direct connection to him, but we now know it is a completely different story. Still, I have this gut feeling about Lila, and I mean a Monkey D. Luffy-level gut feeling that her story is far from over.
I have a feeling Lila could eventually switch sides and end up fighting alongside Reacher in the finale. She has already seen enough of what Amisha’s operation is really like, and with everything falling apart around them, I would not be surprised to see her make a choice that completely changes the final two episodes.
