Given the $1 billion success of Barbie, it is hard to picture anyone in the titular role other than Margot Robbie. But as Robbie revealed previously, Gal Gadot was actually her first choice to lead the film.
Robbie, who produced the blockbuster, initially looked to the Wonder Woman star, leading many to assume scheduling conflicts got in the way. However, Gadot has now contradicted that narrative, revealing she had no idea she was ever on the radar.

Appearing on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot set the record straight on whether formal discussions ever took place, revealing she was entirely unaware of Robbie’s casting wish list at the time.
“Margot is a 100 out of 100. I was—I guess I was not aware at the time,” Gadot said. “I guess it’s one of those, you know, she’s busy. Maybe they thought about me and I was busy filming—I was filming like two projects back then.”
Despite not being in the loop during the development phase, Gadot shared high praise for Robbie’s performance and left the door open for future entries in the world of Barbieland.
“I’m so humbled and grateful for Margot to think about me, and I’m so grateful that Margot did the role because it was incredible,” Gadot said. “It was Barbie, too. There’s room for more Barbies.”
Robbie previously defined Gadot as the quintessential embodiment of “Barbie energy,” a rare balance of beauty, sincerity, and warmth. Gadot, who built a global following as Diana Prince in the DC Extended Universe, has since led major tentpoles including Netflix’s Heart of Stone and Red Notice, in addition to starring as the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action Snow White.
