Tramell Tillman isn’t giving anything away about what happens to Bill Metzger after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor played the Director of the Department of Damage Control opposite Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker, and by the film’s end, Metzger’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is left wide open.
Metzger spends most of Brand New Day clashing with Spider-Man while hunting a mysterious threat that turns out to be Sadie Sink‘s Jean Grey, who is searching for her sister after Damage Control used her in secret experiments. Peter ultimately talks Jean down from killing Metzger, letting him slip away just as the organization comes under investigation. That ambiguous exit has left plenty of room for Tillman to return.
According to CBR’s Sean O’Connell, who spoke with Tillman directly about the character’s future, the actor declined to clarify whether Metzger’s story reached any real conclusion during filming.
“The whole thing with the sister, bringing her to Damage Control. Is it over? It’s hard to say…. Did I shoot any scenes that gave resolution to what happened to him? I think it’s wise I do not answer that question,” Tillman said.

This isn’t the first time Tillman has weighed in on Metzger’s future. In a separate interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, the actor made clear he was relieved his character wasn’t killed off in his MCU debut.
Tillman noted that dying in a first MCU appearance has almost become a rite of passage for new additions to the franchise, and he was glad Metzger avoided that fate.
“I am so glad that Bill did not die. There’s that thing where you step into the universe, and it’s a rite of passage to have a character that dies in the movie.”
Between Tillman’s guarded CBR answer and his ScreenRant enthusiasm about staying alive, the throughline is clear: Metzger’s story isn’t over, even if Tillman won’t say what comes next. With Phase 7 set to launch Marvel‘s Mutant Saga and Metzger’s ties to the X-Men already established in Brand New Day, there’s an obvious lane for Damage Control’s disgraced director to resurface.
Whether Tillman is actually attached to anything specific remains unconfirmed, but the actor’s careful non-answers suggest he knows more than he’s letting on.
