The Succession Contest has become one of the deadliest arcs in Hunter x Hunter, with alliances shifting, princes falling, and Nen abilities increasingly difficult to predict.
Among all the remaining contenders, Fourth Prince Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou has emerged as one of the most dangerous. His rapid mastery of Nen, combined with a terrifying Specialist ability, has made him a constant source of discussion among manga readers.
One moment in particular continues to raise questions. During his Nen training with bodyguard Theta, Tserriednich appeared to be shot in the head before suddenly reappearing completely unharmed. The scene led many readers to wonder whether he had actually died, created an illusion, or manipulated time itself.
The answer lies in his Nen ability, Parallel Future, which remains one of the most complicated powers introduced in the series.
Why Tserriednich Has Become The Biggest Threat In The Succession Contest
Tserriednich entered the Succession Contest with little knowledge of Nen, but that quickly changed once his training began.
Unlike most characters, he learns advanced Nen techniques at an extraordinary pace, mastering concepts in days that normally take experienced users months or even years to understand. His rapid development has alarmed both allies and enemies, who now view him as one of the favorites to survive the contest.
His abilities make him even more unpredictable. Alongside the Guardian Spirit Beast he received through the Seed Urn Ceremony, Tserriednich has manifested a second personal Nen beast, something no other prince has displayed during the Succession Contest.
The Guardian Spirit Beast punishes deception by marking those who lie to the prince before transforming repeat offenders into something inhuman. His second beast appears closely tied to Parallel Future and is believed to influence how he perceives events while the ability is active.
His position in the contest has also strengthened as the war continues. Several princes, including Momoze, Sale-sale, and Kacho, have already died, while powerful contenders such as Benjamin, Halkenburg, and Tserriednich continue maneuvering for control.
Although Benjamin currently holds the strongest military position, many consider Tserriednich the arc’s biggest wildcard because his Nen continues evolving with every appearance.
How ‘Parallel Future’ Actually Works
Tserriednich’s ability activates only after meeting a specific condition. He must close his eyes and enter a state of Zetsu, completely shutting off his aura. The moment he does that, he instantly experiences the next 10 seconds of the future.
Although the vision lasts 10 seconds from Tserriednich’s perspective, it happens almost instantly in real time. Once that vision ends, time begins moving normally again for everyone around him.
From that point onward, everyone else continues experiencing the exact sequence of events Tserriednich already witnessed. They see him moving, speaking, or even dying if those events appear in the vision. Tserriednich, however, is no longer restricted to those actions. He can open his eyes, leave Zetsu, and move freely while everyone around him continues reacting to the future they believe is unfolding.
When those 10 seconds end, reality catches up with everyone else. The illusion disappears, revealing Tserriednich’s actual position and actions instead of the version created by Parallel Future.

How Theta’s Assassination Attempt Went Wrong
The training session between Theta and Tserriednich offers the clearest example of how Parallel Future functions in combat. After witnessing the prince’s frightening talent for Nen, Theta concludes that allowing him to continue developing would put countless lives at risk. She decides the only option left is to kill him before he becomes even stronger.
Waiting for what appears to be the perfect opportunity, Theta draws her gun and fires directly at Tserriednich’s head. From her perspective, the assassination is successful. She watches the bullet strike its target, sees blood spread across the floor, and believes the Fourth Prince has been killed.
What actually happened is very different. Before Theta pulled the trigger, Tserriednich had already activated Zetsu and experienced those events through Parallel Future. While Theta continued reacting to the future she believed was unfolding, Tserriednich simply changed his own movements. Instead of remaining where the vision placed him, he stepped away from the bullet’s path while Theta unknowingly followed the sequence shown by his Nen ability.
When the 10-second window ended, the illusion disappeared. Theta suddenly found herself looking at a perfectly healthy Tserriednich standing elsewhere in the room, fully aware that she had just attempted to assassinate him. The encounter demonstrated why attacking him becomes far more difficult once Parallel Future is activated, as opponents continue reacting to events that are no longer taking place.
Could Tserriednich Fake His Death Again?
The incident with Theta has led many readers to wonder whether Tserriednich could use the same ability on a much larger scale later in the Succession Contest. Although the manga has never shown him deliberately faking his death to deceive the other princes, the mechanics of Parallel Future make the possibility difficult to ignore.
Community discussions have focused on the idea that the ability could create the illusion of Tserriednich being killed while he quietly escapes the situation. Because everyone around him continues experiencing the future created during his vision, rivals could believe they had successfully eliminated him before realizing the real Tserriednich had already changed his actions.
Those theories have become even more popular because of the current state of the Succession Contest. Benjamin continues to hold the strongest military position among the remaining princes, while Halkenburg’s rapidly developing Nen ability has also shifted the balance of power.
