Hunter x Hunter Chapter 413 pulled the rug out from under the entire Succession Contest arc. Kurapika found out that the baby he had been guarding this whole time is not the real Prince Woble. The 14th heir he has been bleeding for holds no actual claim to the throne, and Queen Oito herself let it slip that the infant is her sister’s son, not her daughter.
The Baby Swap Behind the False Woble
Oito laid it out once Kurapika pushed hard enough. Her real daughter, the true Woble, got handed off to her younger sister and disappeared to a spot the queen says she cannot pin down. Sit with that for a second. The genuine heir might be down on a lower deck right now, one face lost in a crowd of two hundred thousand people who never knew they were loaded onto this ship as sacrifices. The real princess could be in worse danger than the fake one ever was.
Bill was the one who caught it. He knows Kakin, Kurapika does not, and that one gap cracked the whole case open. A few Kakin sounds shift meaning depending on gender, so when Shimano fixed how her name was pronounced, the talk drifted into language and stayed there. Oito had been careful with every word.
Each line she gave you would hold up on its own, then crumble the second you poked at it. She didn’t lie to his face. She let people fill in the wrong blanks and stayed quiet about it, and that silence is what tripped her up in the end, after keeping the whole thing under wraps for the entire trip.
And the ritual makes the mess even uglier. The real Woble put her hand in the Seed Urn. Her nephew, though, is the one who showed up for the ceremony that kicked off the Succession Contest. So now neither baby actually counts. Woble did half of it and quit.
The boy isn’t a legal queen’s kid, and his blood never went in the urn. Oito tries to work an angle here, saying the 14th Prince is out, so nobody wastes energy chasing a baby who can’t win anyway. Doesn’t land. All she manages is to leave the 14th spot floating in some legal grey area the ship would rather not touch.
What the Reveal Means for the Rest of the Arc
Think back to what Kurapika actually wanted out of her. Beyond Netero. That’s what this whole sit-down was really about.
He kept prodding at whether Oito had any link to Beyond, whether she knew about the curse packed inside Beyond’s kids, and she swore she was clean. Do we buy it? Hard to say. Togashi does not hang a thread on the wall unless he means to yank it later, so this one comes back around. For now, she has given Kurapika just enough to keep trusting her, and nothing past that.
None of this shrinks Woble. It does the opposite. If the real child is still somewhere on the Black Whale and the wrong people catch wind of her, the search does not stay locked inside Kurapika’s room. It spills down into the lower decks in a hurry. Then there is the Wild Card. Say Woble is off the ship entirely. She could take the whole contest without lifting a finger, as long as the other princes wipe each other out before the Black Whale reaches the New Continent.
That is the trap, and it is a nasty one. Kurapika signed up to protect a princess. He may have burned this entire arc guarding the wrong baby while the one who actually matters drifts somewhere out past his reach.
