Most actors in the running for James Bond play it cool, deflect the question, or give a rehearsed non-answer. Louis Partridge did none of that.

At the world premiere of Enola Holmes 3, the 23-year-old was asked point-blank whether he ever imagined himself in the conversation to play 007. What came next was the kind of refreshingly candid response that makes you think he might actually be made for this.

What Louis Partridge Said About Playing James Bond

Asked whether he’d ever pictured himself in the conversation to play 007, Partridge replied, “No, no. Not yet at least. But that’s something to keep in mind. I wonder what Variety thinks?”

As it turns out, Variety had quite a bit to say. Variety London Bureau Chief Alex Ritman reported in April that Partridge is among several actors in contention for the role, with Amazon and MGM Studios reportedly searching for a “fresh-faced” British actor to play the iconic spy.

The connection runs deeper than just industry chatter. Partridge starred in House of Guinness, a drama series created by Steven Knight, who has been commissioned by Amazon MGM to write the screenplay for Bond 26, giving the pair an established working relationship that observers suggest may have influenced early casting discussions. That is not nothing. Knight, knowing exactly what Partridge can do on screen, is a meaningful detail in a casting process this secretive.

What makes Partridge’s name stand out beyond the usual shortlists is his age. At 23, Partridge would be notably younger than the other rumored contenders: Jacob Elordi at 28, Harris Dickinson at 29, Aaron Taylor-Johnson at 35, and Callum Turner at 36. He would also be younger than the Bonds who first took on the role: Daniel Craig was 38, Sean Connery was 32, Pierce Brosnan was 42, and Roger Moore was 45.

A younger Bond would offer long-term upside, with Partridge potentially anchoring five or six films over 15 years while still being under 40. That, along with a lower asking price compared to bigger names, makes him attractive to Amazon executives if they are targeting early-20s talent.

Partridge’s rise to this point has been anything but slow. He began his career as a child actor with minor roles in Pan (2015) and Paddington 2 (2017), before his breakthrough came with the Netflix mystery film Enola Holmes (2020) and its 2022 sequel. He has since played Sid Vicious in the FX miniseries Pistol, starred in Alfonso Cuaron’s thriller series Disclaimer in 2024, and appeared in the historical drama House of Guinness in 2025.

At the premiere, Partridge also reflected on navigating the kind of fame that comes with that trajectory. “The social media stuff can get a bit noisy sometimes, but it’s important to have good people around you, and to figure out for yourself what’s important outside of looking at your phone, to be honest, which is surprising, I’m not gonna lie,” he told Variety. “It sounds silly to say, but that’s quite tricky to do today.”

He closed with something that sounds a lot like a man who knows exactly where he is headed. “I feel good about where I’m at. I’ve got more to do.”

Bond 26 is being directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight, with no release date announced yet. No formal casting confirmation has come from Amazon MGM Studios.
