Apple TV+ is officially adding another major name to the cast of ‘Shrinking’. Reports confirmed in late May 2026 that Karen Gillan has joined Season 4 of the acclaimed comedy-drama in a recurring role as the series prepares to launch an entirely new storyline.

The production has not revealed details about Gillan’s character yet, but her casting arrives alongside a major structural change for the series. According to updates surrounding the new season, ‘Shrinking’ will feature a significant time jump rather than continuing directly from the Season 3 finale, allowing the story to reset around a fresh multi-season arc.

Season 4 Begins a New Era

The core ensemble remains intact heading into the next chapter. Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, and Christa Miller are all expected to return as the Pasadena-based therapy group moves into a completely new phase of their lives.

Series co-creator Bill Lawrence and the creative team have kept Gillan’s role secret for now, leaving fans to speculate whether she will appear as a patient, another therapist, or someone tied directly to Jimmy Laird’s increasingly chaotic personal life.

Gillan’s addition also continues the series’ trend of blending comedy veterans with actors known for major blockbuster franchises. Most audiences recognize her from playing Nebula across the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films. She also starred as Ruby Roundhouse in the recent Jumanji movies and earned widespread attention earlier in her career as Amy Pond in Doctor Who.

Why Gillan Fits ‘Shrinking’

Although Gillan is often associated with science fiction and action-heavy projects, her casting makes sense for ‘Shrinking’ because of her strong comedic background. Her performance in the short-lived sitcom Selfie in particular showed the same sharp comedic timing and emotional vulnerability that helped define the Apple TV+ series.

That balance has become one of the defining strengths of ‘Shrinking’ since its debut. The series regularly shifts between chaotic humor and deeply emotional conversations surrounding grief, trauma, and therapy without losing momentum in either direction.

Production for Season 4 is expected to ramp up later this year as Apple continues expanding one of its strongest comedy-drama titles. With Gillan now joining an already stacked cast and the story preparing for a major reset through the upcoming time jump, the next chapter of ‘Shrinking’ appears set to push the series into an entirely different phase.
