Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will end with a third and final season, giving Mizu’s revenge story a definitive conclusion. The announcement was made during Netflix’s Anime NYC presentation in August 2026, where the streamer also unveiled new footage and images from the upcoming second season.
The news came alongside the confirmation that Season 3 will serve as the final installment of the acclaimed animated series. Netflix described the announcement as an “epic conclusion production announcement,” confirming that creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green will be able to complete Mizu’s story rather than leaving the series without a planned ending.
The third season is currently scheduled to arrive in 2028, although Netflix has not announced a specific release date.
Season 2 was first confirmed in December 2023, shortly after the show’s acclaimed first season. At the time, Noizumi and Green shared their excitement about continuing the story and reflected on the work that went into creating the series.
“When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations,” they said.
The creators also thanked the audience that connected with Mizu’s journey and teased what was still ahead for the character.
“We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

Season 2 Takes Mizu To London

There is still another chapter to come before the story reaches its final season.
Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in January 2027, with the new footage shown at Anime NYC revealing Mizu aboard a ship heading toward London.
The journey takes Mizu away from the Edo-period Japan that defined the first season and into 17th-century London, where she continues pursuing the white men connected to her past. Abijah Fowler, whom Mizu captured in the first season, accompanies her as a prisoner and serves as her guide to the unfamiliar territory.
The change in setting also gives the series an opportunity to explore Mizu’s identity from another perspective. She spent much of her life being treated as an outsider in Japan because of her mixed heritage, but Season 2 will place her in a society connected to the people she has spent years hunting.
The story will continue in Japan as well, with Akemi and Taigen facing their own challenges amid the political upheaval surrounding Edo Castle.
Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a mixed-race warrior who disguises herself as a man while hunting four white men living in Japan during the country’s closed-border period. Believing one of them is her father, she sets out on a revenge mission that eventually takes her far beyond Japan.
The first season was met with widespread critical acclaim and currently holds a 97% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
With Season 2 arriving in January 2027 and Season 3 planned for 2028, Netflix has now confirmed that Mizu’s journey has a defined destination. The remaining seasons will take her from Japan to London before bringing the story to its planned conclusion.
