While discussing her rise to late-night television, Dimoldenberg joked about the high-profile figures she has interviewed across Chicken Shop Date, before singling out Sheeran in brutal fashion.
“I am incredibly privileged to have done so many interviews with people like Idris Elba, Cher, and even a world-famous, red-headed puppet with a hand up his arse, telling him what to say,” she deadpanned to a roaring live studio audience.
The biting joke referred to the ongoing fallout surrounding Sheeran’s Loop Tour, where American rapper Macklemore was ousted as a supporting act following on-stage “Free Palestine” chants and performances of his protest track Hind’s Hall.
After billionaire venue owners, including Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft, pressured promoters to pull the plug, Sheeran claimed the removal was “the promoter’s decision, not mine,” sparking widespread accusations of fence-sitting and answering to corporate handlers as all remaining opening acts quit in protest.
