Chapter 280 turned Kanaguri’s film shoot into a full genre tour, sending Sakamoto and Kei Uzuki crashing from a samurai village through a jungle, a boxing ring, and outer space. By the end, Shin had steered his friend onto a daytime soap opera set that finally favors the shopkeeper.

Here is everything you need to know about Sakamoto Days Chapter 281, including its release date, global launch times, and what to expect next.

Sakamoto Days Chapter 281 is scheduled to release worldwide on Sunday, November 1, 2026. In the US, that lands at 10 am ET, which is 7 am PT, because American clocks fall back the same morning. Readers in Japan get the chapter at midnight on Monday, November 2, and that same moment lands at 8:30 pm IST on Sunday for readers in India.

No break has been announced for the series or for Weekly Shonen Jump ahead of the chapter, so the weekly schedule should hold. US and Canadian readers will see the chapter an hour earlier on the clock than they did last week, while UK and European clocks already shifted on October 25.

What Happened in Sakamoto Days Chapter 280?

Sakamoto Days Chapter 280, titled “Cinematic Violence”, opened on the samurai village set that Kanaguri announced as the next genre. Sakamoto and Uzuki traded sword strikes through the village before the fight smashed through a giant Buddha statue. A crew member was left mourning a 200-million-yen set.

The brawl then dropped into a jungle set, where Sakamoto quickly noted the location had very few potential weapons. The crew yelled at both fighters to stop destroying the set and pointed out that none of it was in the script. A billion-yen T. rex robot then lumbered out of the trees, to the horror of Director Utsunomiya and the delight of the crowd watching the broadcast.

With the dinosaur on their heels, Sakamoto called Shin, who was scouting the studio lot for a good battle location. Shin pointed him toward nearby sets where props could double as weapons, and the fight landed in a boxing ring in Studio F. The crew mistook the brawl for a take and kept filming, and Sakamoto soon found himself in gloves.

Shin warned that Sakamoto was at a disadvantage in a pure fistfight, and the early rounds showed it. He rushed into Sakamoto’s corner with an idea and a jar of Vaseline, smeared it across his face, and told him to smash through the blue corner first. Sakamoto did exactly that.

The fight spilled onto a space opera set with a spaceship and a green screen, and the audience watching shouted about outer space. Sakamoto asked Shin which way to go, and Shin told him toward the earth, directly below. Sakamoto kicked through the Earth prop and landed on a daytime soap opera set, where Shin reminded him he was on his home turf and told him to take Uzuki out.

The chapter also opened with a color page teasing the third character popularity poll.

What to Expect From Sakamoto Days Chapter 281

The soap opera set is the obvious thing to watch. In Chapter 278, Torres argued that Sakamoto understands everyday objects better than any assassin, and a kitchen and living room are packed with exactly those. I expect the domestic setting to hand Sakamoto the same improvised arsenal he used in the convenience store.

Chapter 280 also showed how much the genre decides the winner. Uzuki, who is still fighting with Sakamoto’s old killer persona, had the edge in a straight fistfight, and Sakamoto needed Shin’s Vaseline trick just to get out of the ring. Chapter 279 had Sakamoto’s allies insisting that a dad is stronger than an assassin, and a family drama set is the first place that claim gets tested head-on.

Shin’s role is the other thread to follow. Kanaguri picked the genres in Chapter 279, but Shin steered the fight through most of Chapter 280, from scouting sets to coaching Sakamoto’s corner. Whether Shin keeps calling the shots from the sidelines, or Kanaguri takes the director’s chair back, remains an open question.

The repair bill is also climbing fast. With a 200-million-yen Buddha set and a billion-yen T. rex robot already wrecked, a soap opera set full of breakable furniture should add to the tally. If Chapter 281 follows the pattern, I expect the fight to move on to another genre before the credits roll.
