What can a single arrowhead do to a man who rewrites the future of his own death? Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity Episode 9 answers that after a month-long break, and the answer is a Still Silver arrow forged long before the war reached its climax.
Yhwach spends the opening minutes untouchable, with his eyes sweeping the sky over three worlds and every attack failing. Then Uryu Ishida lands the shot that changes the fight.
Where the Still Silver Arrow Comes From, and Why Ryuken Hands It to Uryu

Still Silver is a material that forms in the hearts of Quincy targeted by Yhwach’s Auswahlen. The anime planted it early. In episode 28 of Part 3, a scene shows Ryuken Ishida staring at small silver stones in his palm before forging an arrowhead meant to bring Yhwach down.
The human cost behind it is what makes the arrow land emotionally. After Yhwach’s Auswahlen killed his wife Kanae, Ryuken performed a prolonged autopsy to recover the Still Silver in her heart and forged it into an arrowhead. Kanae bore Uryu and died the same year as Masaki Kurosaki.
I think this is the most poetic detail in the final arc. Yhwach’s own cruelty produced the only thing in the story that can interrupt him, because every Quincy he drained left a little of that silver behind.
Ryuken and Isshin slipped into Wahrwelt through a portal once used by Soken, and there Ryuken handed Uryu the arrowhead. He told his son that he should be the one to loose it against Yhwach. Ryuken could have fired it himself, which makes the choice deliberate.
Ryuken is the Last Quincy, a man who publicly scorned his heritage while quietly maintaining it. The arrow is forged from the heart of the woman who gave Uryu life. I read the handoff as the one way this cold, distant father could give his son something.
Uryu also had to get close enough for it to matter. He drank Yhwach’s blood and received the power of the Schrift A, Antithesis. He sought Yhwach’s trust in order to betray him after learning that Yhwach’s Auswahlen had killed his mother.
How the Arrow Gets Past The Almighty

The manga left a long-running question behind. In chapter 684, The Blade, Uryu drives the silver arrowhead through Yhwach, yet Yhwach reads futures and should have seen it coming. Episode 9 shares that chapter’s title.
Yhwach had already used The Almighty in Episode 8 to rewrite the future of his own death, so a normal blow was never going to stick. Once the arrow reaches Yhwach’s blood it leaves him in a weak state and temporarily seals his powers. It has to reach his heart, so Ichigo agrees to dive into him one more time.
Episode 7 laid the groundwork through Uryu’s Schrift, Antithesis, which reverses events between two targets. Yhwach tries to erase Uryu’s arrow from the future and the arrow still reaches him. Haschwalth had also warned earlier that Antithesis might be the one power able to oppose The Almighty.
Antithesis may be what gets the arrow to Yhwach, and Still Silver does the rest. On contact with his blood it leaves him weak and temporarily seals his powers.

The episode then shows how the plan comes together. After their joint attack, Ishida shows Ichigo the arrow tip and explains that it has to reach Yhwach’s heart. Ichigo agrees to dive into him one more time.
The rest of the episode is a race to use the window the arrow opens. The silver arrow is already in Yhwach’s chest while he talks about merging worlds, Grimmjow bites him, and the scene cuts to Urahara with a hint that a forgotten trick is in play. Shunsui then hits Yhwach with the arm of the Soul King, and the episode closes with Ishida saying it is time for Ichigo to act.
The Menos Grande Callback That Ties Ishida and Ichigo Together
The strongest moment is the reference back to where Ishida and Ichigo’s partnership started. Ishida remembers their first fight against the Menos Grande and tells Ichigo to fire Getsuga Tensho from behind him while he fires his own shot. The two attacks merge into one.
That fight began with a petty rivalry. Uryu crushed Hollow Bait to start a duel with Ichigo, which brought Hollows across Karakura Town and eventually a Menos Grande. The two had to set their differences aside and fight together to save their town.

There is a darker layer, too. Aizen later claimed he sent that Menos Grande to push Ichigo’s power higher, so the fight that first made these two allies was something he engineered. In Episode 9 he is nowhere on screen while that same teamwork carries the plan.
The final strike comes from three directions, and Yhwach shatters Ichigo’s old Zangetsu as the slash lands. That reads as the story closing its own loop on purpose, with the old sword, the old rivalry and the old combined attack all returning at once.
The finale, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity Episode 10, arrives October 26 on Hulu and Disney+.
