Sid Baker spent three years as a ghost, and Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 3 finally explains how she survived. The answer involves a real bullet, a fake obituary, and an MI5 secret nobody wanted out.
“Resurrection” opens where the previous episode ended, with River Cartwright walking into his grandfather’s house expecting Frank Harkness and finding Sid instead. He has mourned her since Season 1, so relief and anger arrive together. The reunion gets cut short almost immediately, because the assassins Jim and Jane are still on their trail.
How Did Sid Baker Survive Being Shot?
Sid confirms that the Season 1 gunshot was real. The scar on her neck is still visible, and the wound pains her to this day.
After she began recovering in a London hospital, Diana Taverner arranged to move her to an English village, where she spent three years out of sight.
The reason traces back to Moody, the MI5 operative who shot her while doing Taverner’s dirty work. Her survival becoming public could have exposed the agency, so her death stayed on the record. The episode leaves the full motive open, so I would treat that as the working explanation rather than a confirmed one.
Who Are Jim and Jane Really After?
Sid assumes the assassins came for her. Weeks earlier, she received a travel request to Kazan, Russia, which the Park dismissed as a system glitch, and Jim and Jane began searching her village soon after. She then finds a news report about a woman shot twice in the head in Kazan, presented as a robbery gone wrong.
River’s theory is that someone used Sid’s identity for the Kazan hit and generated travel records to pin it on her. His suspicion lands on Taverner, though nothing yet confirms she arranged the travel order or the killing. The Russian connection is stronger, since Jane slips into Russian during the chase before Jim reprimands her.
Sid may also have misread the danger. Forbes points out that her place on the hit list remains unclear, and the assassins appear to have gone to David’s house looking for River. Their escape begins after Anne, an elderly woman, stalls the pair while River sets their jeep’s gas tank on fire, and Coe picks up Sid and River on a rural backroad.
Sid still insists on finding a payphone to call Taverner, even though River and Coe warn that Regent’s Park may be compromised. After three years of being hidden by MI5, that trust could prove perceptive or badly misplaced. Meanwhile, Lamb learns from Reece Nesmith that his father Andrew stole a hard-copy file from Regent’s Park before Harkness killed him, and Lamb suspects it exposed current and former Slough House agents.
Whether Taverner protected Sid or protected herself is the question Season 6 now owes us. River and Sid end the episode walking into a bowling alley in search of a phone, and Episode 4 picks up from there on October 7.
