Joanne Froggatt Breaks Down Janine and Harry’s Season 2 Split
Speaking about the shocking development alongside co-star Tom Hardy with Collider, Froggatt addressed Janine’s mindset as she takes the legal step to untangle her life from Harry’s criminal orbit. Despite handing over the papers, Froggatt dismissed the idea that Janine is truly done with her husband on an emotional level.
“I think she would absolutely take back Harry if he was going to… I don’t even think it’s like taking Harry back,” Froggatt explained.
“I don’t think she’s ever really fully left him, you know? They have this bond that is other than the sort of romantic side of a marriage, and they have this history together that they’re always going to be linked. They have a child. She knows where all the bodies are buried, metaphorically and literally. She knows so much about him, and he knows so much about her.”
For years, Janine held onto the fleeting hope that Harry might abandon the Harrigan syndicate for good.
“If Harry turned around, I think, at any point and said, ‘Come on then, let’s run off to the sunshine and leave all this behind,’ she’d be like, ‘Finally, that’s what I’ve been waiting for,'” Froggatt shared. “But she also comes to the realization that that’s not going to happen.”
That painful realization forces Janine onto an uncharted path of self-preservation and rediscovery.
“She has this real crossroads of like, ‘Okay, that’s not going to happen. So, what do I do? What do I do with myself? What do I do with my life?'” Froggatt said. “She needs something in her life. Her daughter’s grown up. Her husband’s emotionally unavailable and usually unavailable. She needs some connection, something to aspire to, a passion, anything. And she has to find it.”
Serving divorce papers isn’t about erasing their history, it’s Janine’s last remaining defense mechanism against waiting for an escape that will never arrive.
