Reacher Season 4 Episode 5, titled “Bridge,” spends nearly its entire runtime on the road, and it ends with the two most dangerous women in Mayfield jumping into a river rather than face capture.
The episode picks up right after Reacher escapes a SWAT-surrounded hotel room, and it barely slows down from there. Jacob, Tamara, and Plum head to Jacob’s house hunting for the USB drive Anna mailed before her death, only for Lila and Amisha to show up guns blazing.
What follows is a car chase that ends on the bridge that gives the episode its name, with Jacob stalling the sisters until backup arrives. The plan works almost too well. Jacob nearly gets himself and Tamara killed, and just when it looks like Lila and Amisha are cornered, they choose the river over arrest.
Did Lila and Amisha Survive the Jump?
Yes, and the show does not make viewers wait long to find out. Jacob later takes Tamara and Plum to the Mayfield police department, where his uncle Monty, his late father’s former partner, is quickly revealed to be dirty and working to hand the group over to the FBI.
Monty does offer one genuinely useful detail before that becomes clear. He confirms that Lila and Amisha made it out of the river alive, and that the pair have already slashed a local resident’s throat to steal a replacement car.
That confirmation matters because it removes any ambiguity about whether the show killed off its central threat off-screen. Lila and Amisha are established as resourceful and violent from the jump, and their survival keeps that threat active rather than resolving it in a single episode.
The book, Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, has no equivalent to this scene. There’s no Uncle Monty, no Mayfield police, and no dirty-cop-hands-them-to-the-FBI twist. It’s an original addition for the show, part of a broader pattern this season of renaming and reshaping characters from Gone Tomorrow well beyond the source material.

Where the Bridge Fits Into the Bigger Mystery
The jump is dramatic, but it is not where “Bridge” answers its biggest question. That comes later, when Reacher’s group finally opens Anna’s USB drive inside a hotel room and finds only a single photo of Sampson and Cahill posing with a General Putra.
Sampson later brushes off a mystery man in the background of that photo as a malaria researcher when Reacher calls to ask for an explanation, which comes off as flimsy given everything the group has survived to get that image. The episode closes on Reacher and Tamara reaching an abandoned restaurant where Ben was tortured and killed, only to find Lila and Amisha waiting there with Jacob as a hostage.
That the sisters beat Reacher and Tamara to the restaurant, while somehow leaving Plum out of it entirely, suggests the show is setting up a more personal confrontation before it circles back to Sampson, Cahill, and Putra. Surviving the bridge was never really the endpoint for Lila and Amisha. It was the setup for a second, more dangerous encounter that the group cannot outrun.
The stakes for “Bridge” were never really about the mystery moving forward, and Episode 5 barely advances it beyond that one photograph. What it does instead is confirm that Lila and Amisha are not going anywhere, and that the season’s real reckoning with them is still ahead.
