John Wick 5 is officially moving forward, as Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson announced that both Keanu Reeves and its director Chad Stahelski are on board with a core idea that they found truly exciting. The news comes amid the franchise’s conclusion with Chapter 4, which may bring more interesting projects down the road.

Director Chad Stahelski has already teased some major changes to the upcoming film. Unlike the last four entries, Chapter 5 will take another path instead of continuing the High Table’s storyline. It appears that the movie will be a totally different narrative because the character has figured out how to resolve all of his issues in Chapter 4.

John Wick 5 brings about an expansion of the “Wickverse” universe

It’s worth noting that John Wick 5 is only one of several projects in the works within the franchise, including the Caine film. Directed by and starring Donnie Yen, the project started filming in April 2026. Moreover, Lionsgate is developing an anime prequel, whose working title is “Untitled John Wick Anime Movie.” It’ll star a young version of Wick, and the film will cover his “Impossible Task,” which he had to complete in the first film.

Shannon Tindle will direct the project, which is slated to hit theatres in 2027. Finally, a TV series called “Under the High Table” is expected to explore the power vacuum created in Chapter 4 of John Wick 4.

The expansion comes amid a bigger shift in the franchise, with director Chad Stahelski signing an oversight deal with Lionsgate. According to insiders, it’ll allow him to build the universe in an ensemble manner. That means that characters such as Caine, Akira, and Sofia will play the leading roles in their respective projects, thus making John Wick’s presence optional. It appears that Stahelski’s idea was backed by the franchise’s success as it crossed the $1.02 billion mark at the global box office.

There is no release date or filming timeline for John Wick 5, as Stahelski is currently busy with a Highlander reboot. Therefore, fans shouldn’t expect a quick announcement anytime soon.
