Sadie Sink has been dodging questions about her Spider-Man: Brand New Day character for well over a year now, and even she wasn’t ready for how loud the guessing games would get.

The Stranger Things star was first linked to Tom Holland‘s fourth solo Spider-Man outing back in March 2025, making her one of the earliest additions to the cast.

Since then, Marvel Studios has kept her role locked down tight, and Sink herself has stayed noticeably absent from both trailers released so far. That silence has done nothing but fuel the fire, with fans combing through every frame, cast list description, and stray comment for clues.

Sadie Sink Reacts To ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Fan Theories

Speaking with Fandango, Sink admitted the sheer volume of speculation caught her off guard.

“I didn’t realize there would be this much speculation,” she said. “That really surprised me.”

It’s not hard to see why. The loudest theory making the rounds has Sink playing Jean Grey, the telepathic X-Men icon, a rumor that picked up steam after the second trailer showed her character seemingly communicating through telepathy and shifting form. Insider leaks have only added to the noise, with some claiming to know her identity with total confidence.

Sink isn’t giving anything away, though. In the same Fandango interview, she called joining the franchise “very surreal” since she grew up watching these movies, before adding with a laugh, “I really like the character and that’s all I’ll say.”

Her castmate Tom Holland has been just as tight-lipped, telling Vanity Fair France that some of the wildest fan theories are “weirdly accurate” to what actually happens in the film, but that he doesn’t want to “give any fuel to the flames” before release.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day positioned as the final MCU release before Avengers: Doomsday later this year, the timing has only deepened fan suspicion that Sink’s character could carry weight well beyond this one movie. Whether it’s Jean Grey, a fresh face, or something nobody has guessed yet, Marvel has made it clear the answer is staying locked away until the credits roll.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31.
