Seth Rogen has told a lot of wild celebrity stories over the years, but this one is hitting different in 2026. A resurfaced clip of the actor recalling a run-in with Diddy is going viral again, and fans are saying the timing could not be more perfect.
The story comes from Rogen’s press run, where he and his wife Lauren Miller were swapping outrageous true stories from their lives in Hollywood. Rogen’s contribution involved a chance encounter at one of the most exclusive restaurants in the country, years before Sean “Diddy” Combs became a household name for all the wrong reasons. What started as a funny dinner anecdote now reads like a story with a very different ending than the one Rogen originally imagined.
Seth Rogen Explains Why He Turned Down Diddy’s Hot Air Balloon Invite
Rogen laid out the scene in detail. “Many years ago me and my wife were at The French Laundry. One of the fanciest restaurants in the world,” he said. “And at the table besides us was Puff Daddy and Puff Daddy came over to me and my wife and he said ‘What are you guys doing tomorrow morning?'”
At the time, Rogen and his now-wife were not yet married. “We said we’re here actually scouting wedding locations we weren’t married yet at the time,” Rogen recalled. That is when Combs made his offer. “He said ‘Well if you have time would you like to come hot air ballooning with me?'”
Rogen turned him down flat, and he is not shy about how relieved he is in hindsight. “I said no which I am very happy about cuz the last thing I need in the world is a photo of me on a hot air balloon alone with Puff Daddy waving and smiling and holding glasses of rose.”
Given everything that has happened since, the internet has decided Rogen made the correct call.
Combs was convicted last year on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution following a high-profile federal trial, and he is currently serving a 50-month sentence at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey. He was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges he also faced. His legal team has since filed an appeal challenging both the conviction and the sentence.
Rogen’s story has taken on new life precisely because of that context. A hypothetical photo of Rogen and his then-fiancée floating above wine country with Combs, glasses of rosé in hand, is exactly the kind of image that would not have aged well at all. Fans online have pointed out that Rogen’s instinct to decline, whatever his actual reason at the time, turned out to be one of the better judgment calls of his career.
The clip has been making the rounds again as Combs remains behind bars and his appeal works its way through the courts. Rogen has not commented further on the story beyond the original telling.
