Bernard Holland spent most of Silo trying to control Juliette Nichols, and by the end of Season 2, viewers assumed he’d died trying to stop her rebellion. Season 3 has other plans. Now that he’s alive, hidden, and desperate, the question isn’t whether Bernard survives. It’s why he and Juliette are suddenly working together.
The setup for this shift starts at the close of Season 2, when Juliette and Bernard were both trapped in Silo 18’s decontamination chamber as flames closed in around them.
Juliette walked away. Bernard’s fate stayed a mystery for most of the new season, until Episode 4, titled “Whatever You Do, Don’t Go Home”, ended with Juliette sneaking into the Down Deep and finding him alive, burned, and hiding in the silo’s depths. Robert Sims had known the whole time and let everyone believe Bernard was dead.
Why Bernard Holland and Juliette Nichols Team Up in Silo Season 3
Episode 5, titled “Memory” features an unexpected alliance. After suffering severe amnesia from a drug regimen, Juliette doesn’t corner Bernard. Instead, she must work with him to force her memories back using illegal relics.
They unite out of desperation to figure out how to stop the automated “Safeguard” protocol from completely wiping out Silo 18.
What has changed is necessity. Bernard understands the Legacy and the silo’s underlying machinery better than almost anyone left alive, and that knowledge is something Juliette can no longer do without.
Martha Walker can even monitor radio traffic from other silos using a frequency Bernard supplied her, giving the group real information for the first time all season. The alliance is fragile by design, since it only exists because a shared emergency is forcing people together who have no actual reason to trust each other yet.

Camille Sims and the Safeguard Procedure Explained
The other piece of the puzzle is Camille, who has spent the season trailing Juliette, dosing her with memory-suppressing drugs, and positioning herself to eliminate her once she’s no longer useful.
Bernard, Juliette, and Lukas Kyle are currently the only people in Silo 18 who understand what the Safeguard Procedure actually is and what it can do if triggered again. That shared, specific knowledge is what turns Bernard from an enemy into a reluctant asset.
Robert Sims complicates things further. He’s the reason the entire silo believes Bernard is dead, and his motivations for keeping that secret are still murky. Whether he’s protecting Bernard, protecting himself, or quietly working against his own wife remains an open question the season hasn’t answered yet.
None of this makes Bernard trustworthy. It makes him necessary, which in a silo this deep into crisis might be the same thing. If Camille consolidates power before Juliette can use what Bernard knows, the fragile alliance falls apart before it accomplishes anything.
