What Happened in Steel Ball Run Episode 7?

Episode 7 opened with narration about Joseph of Arimathea, the man said to have taken Jesus Christ’s body down after the crucifixion, and a map tied to him that marks locations across a then-unknown continent. Valentine, now holding that map, revealed that the Steel Ball Run is really a continent-wide dig for the scattered parts of the Saint’s Corpse.
Valentine was convinced Gyro had found one, and Oyecomova had already failed to kill him, so he sent Pork Pie Hat Kid. Steven Steel objected when he realized Valentine wanted Gyro dead no matter who else died, but Valentine showed him the map and ordered the race to continue.
Out in the desert, a mummified arm pushed out of Johnny’s left arm and fused into his flesh. Pork Pie Hat Kid’s Stand, Wired, hooked Gyro and left him suspended in mid-air with his blood dripping to the ground. Cornered, Johnny channeled the Spin and got his fingernails spinning like drill bits as Tusk Act 1 appeared, accompanied by the words Movere crus.
What to Expect From Steel Ball Run Episode 8?

Tusk has barely woken up, so Episode 8 will likely pick up with Johnny and Gyro against Pork Pie Hat Kid, since the manga’s Tusk arc is built around that fight. With Gyro still hanging in mid-air, Johnny has to work out what his new Stand can actually do.
The audience now knows what Valentine wants, but nothing in the recap suggests Johnny and Gyro do. Movere crus is also still unexplained, and we think it roughly means move the leg, which would make Tusk’s first words a pointed message for a man who can’t walk.
Steven’s objection also hints that the race’s organizers are not fully on the same page, though we will have to see whether the anime pushes that thread. Either way, Valentine’s order to kill Gyro stands, so more hostile jockeys and assassins are likely on the way.
Steel Ball Run Episode 8 streams on Netflix on Friday, November 6.
