Anton has spent all of Adults Season 1 as the group’s chaotic wildcard with seemingly no family in the picture. That changes fast in Season 2, when Raven-Symoné shows up as his older sister and immediately complicates his life in ways he never saw coming.
The timing could not be messier. Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the Season 1 finale, when Paul Baker’s visa crisis ended with him marrying Anton instead of his girlfriend, Issa, and the two shared a kiss that instantly shifted the entire dynamic of the house. Throwing a sibling with actual history on Anton into that mix gives the writers a built-in way to dig into who he was before he became the group’s resident disaster.
According to TVInsider, Raven-Symoné was announced as part of a wave of Season 2 guest stars that also includes Susie Essman, Gaten Matarazzo, Zosia Mamet, Ben Marshall, Jake Shane, and Isaac Powell. Owen Thiele, who plays Anton, spoke to the outlet about what it was like sharing scenes with her.
“She’s amazing. I mean, Anton doesn’t think so, but she is amazing. Raven-Symoné is amazing. I also loved working with Susie Essman,” he said.
Why Anton’s Sister Changes the Show’s Dynamic
Every core member of the friend group living in Samir’s childhood home has had some kind of family or backstory thread pulled on throughout the series, except Anton. He has functioned almost entirely within the friend group’s orbit, which made him feel a little untethered compared to Billie, Samir, Issa, and Paul Baker.
Giving him a sibling who, based on Thiele’s comment, apparently does not think much of his current lifestyle sets up an easy source of tension. It also arrives at the exact moment Anton is processing real feelings for Paul Baker, meaning his sister’s presence could force him to reckon with both his romantic life and his family relationships at once.
Casting Raven-Symoné specifically for this role signals that the show intends to use her for more than a quick cameo. She has spent decades playing characters with sharp comic timing and strong opinions, which aligns with the kind of judgmental-but-loving older-sibling energy this storyline seems to be building toward.
