Episode 7 of You and I Are Polar Opposites gave everyone an aquarium date, a midnight birthday call and Azuma slowly losing her mind from one building over.
Episode 8 is autumn now and the season change is not just visual. Azuma’s ex shows up and the whole Tairazuma dynamic gets its most emotionally complex episode yet. Oh and Nishi kissed Yamada. The show is genuinely just doing everything right at this point.
Nishi Kissed Yamada and the Internet Needed a Moment to Recover
Yamada and Nishi have been the couple everyone has been watching the most since Nishi confessed in episode 5 and episode 8 is where their relationship takes its biggest step forward.
Nishi gathers everything she has and kisses him. She is incredibly flustered about it. She does it anyway. That combination is the whole character of Nishi summarized in one action and the show earns it completely because of how much it has shown you about who she is before this moment.
The character development sitting underneath that kiss is what makes it land the way it does. This is the same girl who could barely talk to him without turning into a blushing tomato at an aquarium a week ago. The girl who cut her bangs because he mentioned wanting to see her eyes and did not tell him she had done it.
Watching her go from that version of herself to the person who decides she is going to show affection even while being embarrassed about it is the quiet arc the show has been running all season and episode 8 closes it properly.
Graduation is also sitting on the horizon now and everyone is getting serious about university plans. Tani had been assuming he would follow his father’s path but being with Suzuki has made him start thinking about what he actually wants. Suzuki has her own thoughts about the future. The photo booth moments they share this episode are the kind of silly, warm, completely them interaction that has made their relationship the emotional anchor of the whole show.
They cannot spend as much time together as they would like but the support between them is visible in every scene they share and the show does not need to make a big deal out of that to make you feel it.

Azuma Saw Bishie Vision Taira and That Is Where We Are Now
The Tairazuma section is where episode 8 does something quietly significant with very little screen time. The show has shifted into autumn and entrance exams are sitting on everyone’s horizon. Taira is going for a scholarship specifically so he can become independent as quickly as possible and avoid spending the rest of the year buried in exam prep.
His competition turns out to be Honda, applying for the same scholarship for basically the same reasons. They have never really properly interacted before this episode and the scene where Honda casually drills several holes in Taira’s self-esteem by pointing out his attitude before taking the scholarship for herself is the funniest thing the episode does.
Then Azuma sees the two of them walking together afterward and gets jealous. She has not fully admitted to herself that she has feelings for Taira yet and this is the universe giving her a small shove toward honesty. The show handles it well because it does not make Honda and Taira’s interaction a genuine misunderstanding drama.
Azuma knows nothing happened. She just feels something she is not ready to name yet and watching Taira in bishie vision while trying to rationalize that feeling is the show at its most self-aware about what these two are.
The frustration is that Azuma’s crush has not moved much further than where it was in episode 7 despite several months passing in the show’s timeline. The slow burn is working but with the season winding down it needs to start moving faster and episode 8 is the first episode where that sense of urgency is genuinely noticeable.
