One Piece fans have been counting down the days for Chapter 1190, and the early spoilers suggest this one is going to hurt.
Gaban has spent the last stretch of chapters positioning himself as one of the few people alive who can actually stand toe to toe with Imu, the shadowy figure pulling the strings of the entire World Government.
Luffy, meanwhile, has been stuck watching from the sidelines, unable to do much of anything against a threat operating on a completely different level. That dynamic comes to a head in Chapter 1190, titled “The Person Whose Death Would Make People Happy”, and it does not end well for Gaban.
What Happens Between Gaban and Imu in Chapter 1190
According to the latest spoilers by @pewpiece on X, One Piece chapter 1190 opens with Gaban scolding Luffy for needing to be rescued by an injured old man, before dropping a piece of philosophy that cuts right to the heart of what it means to be Pirate King.
He tells Luffy that the Pirate King is someone whose death would make people happy, since everyone wants that throne for themselves, and that if Luffy wants to sit on it while living happily and comfortably, he should just go home instead.
With that said, Gaban throws Luffy out of harm’s way and turns to face Imu directly. Imu draws a blade called Honebami, the Bone Eater, and the two clash head-on. Gaban responds with his own technique, Shinmon Hassen Fukushu, which tears apart the ground beneath them and sends both fighters plummeting into the underworld.
The chapter closes on a brutal image. Gaban is left lying on the ground with his left arm severed below the elbow, and Luffy can only look on in shock at the state his ally is in. It is a stark reminder of just how far out of Luffy’s league this fight really is.
One Piece will be on break next week for Jump’s scheduled holiday, meaning fans will have to wait two weeks to see what becomes of Gaban after this brutal exchange.
