According to Milly Alcock, there is no other way to be a Supergirl than to care for her dog. Speaking together with a trailer of the upcoming feature, the actor stated that the emotional condition of Kara was defined by her relationship with her Krypto, which is the most valuable connection she has with Krypton. Thus, Alcock said, “She’s his entire world. He’s the only thing that matters.” The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and will come out on June 26, 2026.

The connection shapes the survival story

A trailer presented at CinemaCon showed the connection that Alcock talked about. In particular, in one scene, the actress delivers the line “There is no home without you, buddy” while addressing her dog Krypto, which reflects that the absence of connection with the Earth separates Kara from other superheroes. While Clark Kent has found peace on our planet, Kara remains a stranger, keeping Krypto as her only alive relative.

Alcock stated that the connection between the two was defined not by joyful experiences but by traumas, which means that a dark plot is waiting for viewers. After Krem of the Yellow Hill poisoned her Krypto, Supergirl decides to take revenge on the villain, becoming “bad and messy,” according to the young actor’s words.

The origin story of Krypto has been altered to increase the connection between him and Kara. The actress shared a scene where she escapes the planet together with Krypto from Argo City, making it clear that the dog was the one who belongs to her, not Superman.

Krypto is a completely digital creature that appears together with an actor portraying his owner. On set, actors were filming the scenes with the Romanian street dog, which served as a reference.

Moreover, a brief scene showing the interaction between Kara and Superman was included in the trailer. David Corenswet stars as Superman in the movie, visiting his sister’s home and receiving the answer “f___ nerd” in return from her. Kara addresses her brother in this situation to the person named Ruthye played by Eve Ridley.
